January 28--if you go to a coffee shop

I spent the day at the hospital learning center training my students how to use the computerized charting system. I'm not sure why the hospital makes me do it, since I never use the system, other than to check up on the students' charting. I have eventually figured it out though, and can at least give them enough so they can figure it out on their own. From what I have experienced, most electronic medical records systems are not designed for the end user. They are designed for data collectors.

I also had to do an update training for them on the glucose monitors we use. Normally there is a video, but the person who has the video wasn't there today, so I found something online. The speakers weren't working very well, so I turned on the closed captioning. The guy talking was from Alabama.

I don't think this is what he was really saying, but I could be wrong.

I had a video conference with my faculty advisor this afternoon to talk about my doctoral project. We are in the process of refining our problem statement, which is the issue we want to address. Mine has to do with identifying undiagnosed diabetes in at-risk populations. I have been struggling with it, particularly where I will do the project, since I am not directly affiliated with any health care facility anymore, and the one I teach at seems lukewarm about it. I was discussing this with my advisor, and she suggested the possibility of doing it at the college health center, which is absolutely brilliant. I guess that's why she's the advisor. So I will start exploring that.

I am now fully immersed in the semester and have found my motivation once again. I like that.
