Ok, it's 2019. I have already used 2019 in an email for work, and I got it right the first time, so there's that.
We had a nice dinner on the last day of the year. Actually, it was more of a lunch, as we ate at about noon. We had our traditional seafood meal, and it was delicious. I used up the last of the chard out of the garden for our vegetable.
I stayed up late on new year's eve, and made it to midnight, barely. Malida was in bed by 8:30, as she had to work early yesterday. I woke up feeling like I had stayed up too late, and zombied around the house for a while before giving myself a little pep talk about starting off the new year the right way.
I got motivated and cleaned the kitchen, then vacuumed the air intake for our heating system and replaced some light bulbs. I went outside and cleaned up the back yard, including the planting boxes. The only thing left in there were some Thai chilis and my beets, which didn't really grow at all, other than the leaves. I think I planted them too late in the year. I also noticed that the planter boxes don't get any sun at all this time of year, so maybe that was a factor.
In any case, things are ready to go for the spring planting. I will probably plant chard again in a month or two, as it was really tasty. Most of the other stuff I planted last spring did well, so I will likely plant most of that stuff again as well. I don't think we are going to Thailand this summer, so I will have a lot more time to putter around the garden.
I had my black-eyed peas for lunch, then made some chili gravy enchiladas in the late afternoon.
They turned out pretty good, but still not exactly the way I want the sauce to taste. There's something missing, and I can't put my finger on it. I remain convinced that Arlina's old recipe is still somewhere around the house, but in 14 years, I still haven't found it. I'm pretty sure she didn't take it with her.
I'm at work now, trying to finish up this dumb accreditation thing, but I am distracted. I have to get it done this week so we can give it to the readers who will proof it for us. Ugh.
I haven't made any real resolutions for this year, but I will think about some things I want to do, or learn, or explore. I want to keep working at my landscape photography and figure out what to do with the photographs I make. I would like to read more, particularly non-fiction. I'm sure there's more, but I think that's enough for the moment. Time for a walk!
